Valerie Sedlezky
Profile
A member of the firm’s Not-for-Profit & Charities Group, Valerie works with registered charities and other not-for-profit organizations, and their directors and members, on a wide range of their corporate and charitable needs, including incorporation and governance changes, drafting and interpreting by-laws and policies, obtaining and maintaining charitable registration, preparing donation agreements, and assisting with donor advised funds and other gifting matters.
At the outset of each mandate, Valerie familiarizes herself with clients’ individual circumstances, and the sector in which they operate. She leverages her own resourcefulness and attention to detail, as well as the extensive intellectual capital she receives from her mentors in the group, to find ways in which she can best support clients as they navigate often complex and novel matters.
Valerie’s passion for charities and not-for-profits stems from her early days at law school, where she devoted many hours to Osgoode Hall Law School’s Pro Bono Students Canada chapter, the largest in Canada. Her leadership in this chapter gave her exceptional insight and a unique perspective into the nuances and intricacies of the sector, enhancing her ability to understand clients and the strategies she needs to apply as their advocate to help them achieve their objectives.
Valerie summered and articled at Torkin Manes before returning as an associate.
