Banking & Financial Services
Overview
With financing issues underlying most commercial activity, our banking and finance lawyers provide comprehensive legal counsel on a wide spectrum of transactions on behalf of borrowers and lenders, giving clients the advantage of our knowledge and perspective from both sides of a transaction.
Torkin Manes has a robust borrower-side practice, acting on behalf of borrowers in most sectors of the economy, including real estate development, technology, mining, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, distribution, entertainment, construction, cannabis, import/export and foreign businesses investing in, or establishing a presence in Canada. On the lender side, we understand how banks and other lenders make decisions and have developed solid, long-standing working relationships with lenders and their counsel and can negotiate effectively on our clients' behalf, regardless of the size or type of loan. We represent Canadian banks, foreign lenders, asset-based lenders, mezzanine and subordinate creditors and private lenders, among others.
As strategic advisors, members of our Banking & Financial Services Group invest time to understand our clients’ businesses to ensure the counsel we provide is relevant, comprehensive and effective. We leverage our extensive knowledge of the law and industry so borrowers and lenders can rely on us to help them navigate corporate finance, regulatory and governance issues, and general banking matters. We capably distill complex technical issues into language that resonates with our clients, ensuring they always have a clear picture of where we are in the process of their transaction and their strategic options. Our clients know they can reach us whenever they need to, and that the lawyer they will be dealing with will be taking responsibility for the work.
Above and beyond anything else, we provide practical advice that optimizes our clients’ chances of achieving their objectives, in the most efficient and effective manner possible.
