Doug Bourassa, partner in our Litigation & Dispute Resolution and Commercial Real Estate Groups, was interviewed by the Toronto Star on this week’s triple shooting involving, Arash Missaghi, who had been entangled in several civil and criminal legal actions, including a recent lawsuit concerning the gunman, Alan Kats.
“The guard rails you would think that would protect against this: mortgage broker regulation, lawyer regulation and securities commission regulation, the criminal justice system and the bankruptcy regime, all failed to prevent him from continuing his fraud,” said lawyer Doug Bourassa.
A partner at Torkin Manes in the heart of Toronto, Bourassa has been actively litigating against Missaghi on behalf of clients for more than a decade. He spoke to the Star at length for the first time this week about the man he said was a “dedicated wrongdoer” — one who knew how to deflect punishment onto others, creating shell companies that obscured his paper trail.
