The Business Law Section of the American Bar Association Appoints Lisa R. Lifshitz as Content Officer and Chair of the Content Board

Torkin Manes is pleased to congratulate Lisa R. Lifshitz on her recent appointment as Content Officer and Chair of the Content Board of the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section, a position that she will hold for a three-year term. 

In her role, Lisa will oversee the development and distribution of substantive intellectual work-product, including articles, papers, model agreements, checklists, presentations, books, CLE webinars, podcasts, and other educational programs and accompanying materials for the 32,000-plus member Section.

Lisa has a long-standing history with the American Bar Association (ABA) that spans nearly 20 years, during which time she has held leadership positions in its Business Law Section (BLS), and the Science and Technology Section.

Lisa is currently the Co-Chair of the Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Subcommittee, Cyberspace Committee, BLS, and is a member of the ABA Standing Committee on Technology and Information Systems and the Editorial Board of The Sci-Tech Lawyer. She is a past member of the Cybersecurity Legal Task Force, a Past Chair of the BLS Technology Committee, and is a Past Vice-Chair, Cyberspace Law Committee. Coupled with her leadership positions, Lisa is a sought-after thought leader in her field, and was the co-editor and a contributor to Cloud 3.0: Drafting and Negotiating Cloud Computing Agreements (2019). More recently she co-authored a chapter for the Director’s Technology Handbook (2021). She is a frequent contributor to the BLS’s Business Law Today publication in addition to her many other writing and speaking engagements for the ABA.

As a partner in Torkin Manes’ Business Law Group, Lisa specializes in the areas of information technology and business law, and is Chair of the firm’s Technology, Privacy & Data Management Group. She provides technology-related advice on financings and acquisitions, including cross-border deals. She also advises on various IT contracts, including cloud computing, IoT, AI/smart contracts, fintech, blockchain and open source legal matters. Lisa has considerable experience helping non-Canadian companies, especially American entities, create appropriate legal agreements for their entry into the Canadian marketplace.

Lisa also practises in the area of privacy, cybersecurity and information management, advising both Canadian and international clients on compliance with Canadian privacy requirements. She routinely advises clients on trans-border data transfers, breach management, privacy and CASL compliance in corporate transactions and ongoing operations.
