Torkin Manes honours Black History Month throughout the month of February

Throughout the month of February, Torkin Manes honours Black History Month.

February highlights our year-round opportunity to learn more about the Canadian Black community’s rich history, the inspiring journeys of some of its members, many of whom achieved greatness in the face of adversity and discrimination, as well as the Black community’s ongoing contributions to the enrichment of our country.

To mark the 28th official Black History Month, The Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Canada’s Minister of Housing and Diversity and Inclusion, announced this year’s theme as “Ours to Tell”, which highlights the successes, sacrifices and triumphs achieved throughout Black Canadian history while maintaining focus on the path forward.

As part of our learning and enlightenment, we are shining a spotlight on a web series titled, “28 Moments of Black Canadian History”, created and directed by Torkin Manes’ 2022 summer student / 2023-2024 articling student Anne Moreau.

In addition to the playlist containing all of the videos, we encourage you to learn more about the innumerable contributions that members of the Black community have made to the enrichment of our country at the City of Toronto and Government of Canada websites.
