A partner in the firm’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution Group and Chair of the firm’s Health Care Facilities Group, David’s practice encompasses all manner of civil and commercial litigation, with particular focus on health law and professional liability. He leverages his business knowledge and strong advocacy skills to advise on some of the most complex, high stakes matters on behalf of a broad range of clients.
Bringing nearly four decades of experience, David regularly appears before all levels of court, boards and tribunals that regulate the health care industry and the professions. To David’s clients, he is a trusted strategic advisor, representing corporations (private and non-profit), regulated professionals, including health professionals, engineers, and lawyers. As a testament to his expertise, David provides counsel to the Ontario Long Term Care Association and the Ontario Retirement Communities Association.
In his commercial litigation practice, David manages complex, high stakes matters, including shareholder and partnership disputes, oppression actions, injunctions, breach of contract lawsuits, negligence actions, real estate disputes, mortgage enforcement, and commercial arbitrations. He routinely represents clients in commercial disputes that are resolved at trial or through mediation/arbitration, including judicial mediation.
To complement his practice, David is a sought-after thought leader and has lectured extensively on health law issues to both lawyers and health care professionals. He is frequently invited to participate as a conference speaker to share his insights and expertise on health law topics.
Reinforcing his exceptional professional and leadership capabilities, David has been repeatedly ranked by elite legal directories in the areas of Health Care Law, and Corporate and Commercial Litigation. He is a former member of the firm’s elected Management Committee, a position he held for many years, a member of the DEI Committee, and a past chair of the Civil Litigation Department and Professional Development at the firm. He also devotes countless hours as an active contributor to the communities in which he lives and works, and contributes his expertise as a member of the Baycrest Health Sciences Quality & Safety Committee.
